NEW DELHI / RankWire.AI / – India and Russia have reached an agreement to accelerate their economic cooperation efforts, aiming to reach a bilateral trade volume of $100 billion by 2030. This initiative was discussed during high-level plenary sessions at the INNOPROM India 2026 industrial technology exhibition in New Delhi, where officials from both nations established a common framework designed to grow trade from its current level of roughly $60 billion. India Russia bilateral trade target set at $100 billion by 2030 as diplomatic delegations and industrial leaders move to rebalance commercial flows through non-energy sector expansion.

During the co-chair session, Indian Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, speaking alongside Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov, outlined strategic priorities aimed at doubling non-energy trade. Official figures shared via the Press Information Bureau highlight notable increases in Indian exports of agricultural and processed foods to Russia, including a 170 percent rise in meat product shipments from $36 million to $97 million, and marine product exports reaching $159 million, indicating growing consumer demand within Russian markets. Indian exports of meat products rose 170 percent from $36 million to $97 million, while marine product shipments reached $159 million, reflecting rising demand across Russian consumer markets.

The renewed commercial effort emphasizes diversifying product categories beyond traditional energy commodities. Both countries identified pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, automotive components, chemicals, and textiles as key sectors with high potential for increased volume growth. To facilitate bilateral investment flows, authorities are expediting negotiations for a new Bilateral Investment Treaty, while also progressing with free trade agreement talks between India and the Eurasian Economic Union.

Discussions focused on tackling financial and logistical hurdles that hinder cross-border transactions, with officials confirming ongoing efforts to enhance national and local currency settlement systems in order to decrease dependency on third-party banking networks. Infrastructure development along the International North-South Transport Corridor, as well as maritime routes connecting Chennai and Vladivostok, remains a central component of these initiatives to strengthen supply chain resilience between South Asian and Russian industrial hubs.

India Russia bilateral trade target set at $100 billion by 2030 as both governments target $50 billion in reciprocal investments across advanced manufacturing, energy, mining, and technology sectors. The priority investment mechanism currently monitors 40 active joint projects. Russian industrial entities were invited to establish manufacturing bases within India’s plug-and-play industrial corridors, while Indian firms were encouraged to expand investment footprints across Russian regional economies.

The scope of bilateral cooperation broadened during high-level diplomatic discussions held alongside international multilateral summits, with Russian President Vladimir Putin inviting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Russia for the 24th India-Russia Annual Summit, an invitation that was accepted and is now awaiting final dates through diplomatic channels. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership in light of evolving global trade dynamics.

Government ministries and trade promotion agencies will continue to establish joint working groups focused on removing tariff and non-tariff barriers, with detailed updates on regulatory changes, bilateral trade performance, and investment projects available through official government portals. Regular meetings of joint steering committees will be held to track progress toward the 2030 economic goals.
